This Goodspeed table saw has already been seen on OWWM but as the buyer on Ebay I thought I'd update the listing. The saw was picked up only blocks from the Goodspeed plant in Winchendon Mass. It purportedly was purchased about 40 years ago from the shop of the chief pattern maker for the company.
Blade depth is adjusted by four iron disks having grooves in their face which mate with planed ways on the tables bottom surface. The hand wheel turns a shaft upon which two worm gears mesh with a pair of helical gears which in turn rotate two shafts upon which the grooved wheels are affixed off center forming four cams which act to raise and lower the table.
The top has dovetailed ways for the various fences etc. The gear train is exquisitely smooth with almost no lost motion and the arbor is highly adjustable to accurately position the blade both parallel to and at a right angle to the table.
The accompanying 1882 advertisement for Goodspeed & Wyman reveals both that the saw was designed for the addition of a horizontal boring feature and that its design predates the Goodspeed Machine Co.
My saw's frame was never drilled and tapped for the boring attachment.
