This bandsaw was a craigslist find for a very reasonable price. It was in working condition but was very oily/dirty and had spent quite a bit of time outdoors because it was full of old wasp nests and some rust. In addition it suffered a fall during transportation which resulted in damaged trunnions. Once I got it home, I realized as I was going through some of the stuff that came with the saw that the previous owner had thrown in 2 sets of carter stabilizers brand new in the boxes ($160 value) along with a bunch of blades which alone almost covered the purchase price. This was my first attempt at a full restore of old Arn! I took it apart piece by piece and cleaned and removed every bolt. Wire brushed and sanded off all old paint and rust. I found a closely matching racing stripe on ebay to match the original. I ordered new steel trunnions, replacement upper wheel tilt threaded rod which was bent and several other missing or damaged items. I used phosphoric acid to kill off any remaining rust and prep metal surfaces and then repainted using Rustoleum Deep Green Hammered Finish which is a very close match to the original colors. Upper wheel and pulley drive shaft bearings were replaced. I replaced the motor capacitors but kept old bearings as they were in good condition. I removed the old cracked rubber tires and replaced with new blue urethane tires. I installed new v-belts. I replaced all wiring with new and replaced an old malfunctioning motor starter with a new motor switch. I re-created the original vinyl decals in a graphic editor for blade size curve limits, high/low speed, oil level, safety warning ect and had them custom printed. I'm happy with the end result.
