Comments:
This lathe was found in a recently discovered workshop in the basement of an 1890 office building that changed ownership. Perhaps it's original to the building??? The head stock, rests, and tail stock were built by JA Fay, but the bed was built on site using a pair of steel channels and other miscelaneous steel - it's about 7 feet long. For stability, it's been anchored to the wall. There is also a pair of rest supports on the outboard side of the head stock for turning large objects. The drive system is 4 speed using matched v-belt pullies. There is also a set of Keen Kutter and some various other turning tools and gouges. There is also a post grinder, but i don't know if it works.
I haven't turned this machine on, but the bearings have no slop in them and turn freely. It looks like it's been sitting for several decades and could use a good cleaning, but this machine is really built well.
