A friend of mine at work gave me this Craftsman grinder that belonged to his grandfather. It has a 6 inch grinding wheel capacity, or in my case, a 6 inch buffing pad capacity. Because I just use it for buffing, I drive the grinder with a 1/4 HP motor mounted below the table. One of the buffing pads is a firm spiral stitched pad charged with Dico E5 polishing compound that I use for removing scratches after grinding a bevel on wood lathe gouges. The other pad is a softer cushion type buffing pad charged with Dico SCR polishing compound for further polishing the gouge bevel. I use the buffing pads only on lathe gouges and not the skew tools or wood chisels.

The grinder is a nice piece of equipment all made of cast iron (including the guards) with ball bearings to run the spindle.

A forum member was very helpful in identifying and dating the grinder. It seems that the Power-Bronze color dates the machine from 1959 to 1961.
