This little knife grinder is very heavily made, with cast iron base and cast iron table.
Vertical ways (on base)and horizontal ways (on traversing table) are gibbed. Notched steel wheels on grinder side slide on mating ground way while off side wheels are flat and slide on flat ground ways. Grinding wheel shield is also cast.
Maker's tag states 'Machinery Co. of America, Hanchett Works.' 'Size 706, Shop No. 65.'
The 706 may refer to a seven inch range of travel and a six inch diameter wheel.
The motor is Emerson Electric and 1/4 HP, with exposed connectors.
This machine grinds quite nicely.
