Model Number 5, with 10" wheels
This grinder was acquired by an OWWM'er on a trip to Redmond, Oregon to pickup a mortiser in April, 2005. I don't know anything about this manufacturer, except they seem to have been known for the hand saws!
The original owner of this grinder inherited it from his father after WWII and was storing it in his woodshop. To his knowledge it was not used after the war! The photos are of the grinder as I received it.
This grinder was donated to the Georgia Agrirama as a result of our webmasters request (KeithR) for donations of flat belt machines. I couldn't think of a better gift that than of an OWWM, can you?
Update 3/12/2006 - I was contacted by a fellow OWWM, who has a 1928 Atkins catalog. All of the model numbers for their grinders are higher than my No. 5 (i.e. 6 and 6l which had 6" wheels and 10, 10s, 12, 14 all of which have 10 inch or larger wheels. Based on this information we believe the grinder to be made before 1928.
Restored in Aug., 2010.
