Update 30Aug07: over a year ago I found an appropriate vintage Craftsman drill for this stand at ReTool.
It is a 1954 Craftsman 315.7710 (date code 3_54), 1900rpm, 2.0A. I swapped the 1/4" chuck for a Craftsman 3/8".
This is the all ball bearing industrial drill. It runs well, even when drilling 1/2" holes in wood.
Update May 2021: Sold to a fellow OWWMer.
