My friend bought this machine on my behalf (he knew I was looking for a planer) at an estate sale in the Southern Ca. high desert. It was in the open and not covered very well, but in the desert, rain and humidity are not usually an issue and it had mostly surface rust. The cutter head (3 knife) is driven by a single phase 3 HP motor via a gear reduction as to control the feed rate. Refurbish consisted of strip, sand, prime and top coat with Rustoleum smoke gray. New bearings were installed in the cutting head. Total investment $180.00.
