I purchased this H.W. Petrie 24" 7.5hp planer, a Cowan & Co. Ltd. 14" 7.5hp tilting table saw and a 16" 5hp Cowan & Co. Ltd. jointer all at the same time. They all came from the same original owners, Universal Truck & Trailer fabrication shop in Saint John NB,(established in the 1920's I believe) My father Gilbert McKinnon worked there from age 20(started as a welder/fabricator) to age 63 when he retired from the position of Shop Manager, but still did consulting work for them for several years more. I purchased this equipment in the mid 90's when the NB Health and Safety people deemed them 'Unsafe' because of lack of guards (the guards in the pictures are the ones fabricated by USL as safety precautions.) The safety rules in NB change like babies change diapers or every time someone stubs a toe or finger. I still use this planer today for large jobs and mainly use my 20" as it is on a mobile base so i can move it around(as mobile as you can get with it being over 850 lbs that is.)
