I happened upon this drill press is on display in the Cummings Center a converted factory now office park. It was once the home to "the Shoe" or United Shoe Manufacturing Company which was the major employer in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Shoe closed years ago and was acquired by Cummings in the late 1990's. Beverly Mass is home to an inland harbor where according to my local friend there many many of the old discarded machines from the factory are now being used as chained mooring ballast at the bottom of the Beverly harbor! (GASP!) Only until searching the archive here, did I realize that it was an AHS drill. There are a whole host of displays in this building of its former equipment and purpose. I have also included a picture of the placard of the display which gives a history of this particular piece of equipment. Enjoy! (PS Sorry for the glass case glare- should I get another chance to visit I'll bring my tripod and polarizing lens)
