This machine was originally purchased by the Indianapolis Public School System where it was used at the Armory Technical High School. It was put for sale in October 2015 by the Indianapolis Public School system where a guy local to the area purchased it. He brought it home and decided to sell it once he evaluated its size, weight, and power needs. I purchased the machine from him in December 2015, and it now resides in my shop.
The machine is really in very good shape. It appears as though it was used sparingly throughout its life at the school, and the gear train, beds, chip breakers, pressure bar, and segmented infeed roller look to be in excellent shape. I did examine the spider in the bottom of the machine carefully, and it is intact, no breaks or damage that I could find. The spider is the weak link on these machines. If it is lifted with a forklift from the front or back of the machine, or from the side with forks too short to span from side to side, the spider can break.
The feed speed indicator needs repair as the glass is broken, and the needle is missing, but that can be easily repaired. The beds are out of alignment, caused by wood chips under the lower wedge and the side castings, making the handwheel a real bear to turn, but I think with some cleaning and lubricating, this problem can be fixed. Overall, I am thrilled to have this machine, and look forward to making it operational shortly.
I am missing the knife grinder, jointer, alignment pin, and weight used to sharpen the knives if anyone has one of these laying around that they want to sell. I have the complete grinding rail.
