I have an old post lathe on a wooden stand that I purchased about 14 years ago in Hastings County, Ontario.
It does not seem to have any markings on either the head stock or tail stock. The stand/bench is wooden, about 8 feet long, and it looks capable of turning stock of up to 4 foot. Since the whole assembly is heavy, probably several hundred pounds, I assume it was made in the province of Ontario.
There are two tool stands, one cast iron that looks like it came with the manufacture. The other stand is 3 feet long, probably home made. When I purchased the package, it came with a switch box, cable and a Brown Brockmeyer 115/230v 1 hp 60 cycle motor, B Line Serial number 2216446. If the motor was always part of the package, then I assume the lathe would be circa 1930 (like the motor). It just seems that the lathe is older, and was possibly driven by something else (tractor?). The other interesting feature is the curved cast nuts that secure the head and tail stock to the stand.
I used the lathe to turn stair spindles as shown, as well as two newel posts. I now have decided to take back the space it occupies, and sell it. I am pretty sure the motor still functions because it worked fine for my project.
Anyone know the possible age of the lathe, and the value of the whole package? Some photos attached.
