I bought this used from a dealer in Arlington, MA in 1979 and was told that it was a year or two old then. I bought the dust hood from Parks about 1987 and fashioned the hand feed lever depicted for slow planing of highly figured wood. My father, a former employee of Reid Bros. (manufacturers of surface grinders) here in Beverly made the stand for me there. great machine, and I don't know why anyone would want this machine without the dust hood! The serial number is slightly different from most I have seen in that it has a "D" as a prefix. I would assume this refers to being a direct drive model.
