This is not my jointer. I took this photo and many others at the woodsmith store in DeMoines Ia. The store is huge!!! They have several model shops like Saks 5th avenue but full of woodworking tools. The pro shop is built using rough timber, bricks and sliding doors. Its very nice! In it, you will find almost exclusively brand new, made in canada, General machines. This jointer is a very rare jointer. Its a model 780 and thats all cast iron to the floor. No tuna fish cans used to build this machine. I believe its the only jointer still made using the oliver/cresant style individual corner block wedge ways. They also make an 880 which is the same machine except its 16 inches wide. If anyone wants more eye candy shop pix, email me. As you all know, general manf. of canada bought out the poitras line and this jointer is one of the carry over machines. If you look at many of the poitras machines, you will see some of the new general/canada machines. For example, the SS-32 heavy shaper and its 2800 little brother are from poitras as are these jointers and the planers including the 20 inch model 330. Virtually all the good stuff from general was obtained via the poitras buy out. You have to admit, this is one nice looking jointer! And that demo pro shop is just incredible. If you ever get to DeMoines, you have to stop. Dont worry, they have a latte bar thing in the store. DONT EVEN ASK! Its got to be for the wives, etc. while the store folks work on hubbie's wallet. Its like a sea world for woodworkers.
