I bought this at auction. It came with the AMF float-lock vise on the table and the fabulous taxicab yellow paint job you see here. It's turned out to be a top notch machine. The original color was machine gray, not the gray-green of earlier Driver Line machines. Serial number is 7DP240. This machine is identical to the picture in the 1940 catalog. The vise was patented in 1951.
The only thing that had to be fixed was a minor electrical problem in which the whole machine was hot when switched on. It turned out that one of the leads into the motor had the insulation chafed off.
The motor is a Century 1/4 HP of similar vintage, which is less than the 1/3 that Walker-Turner recommended but doesn't seem underpowered.
U.S. patent 2,072,646 includes extensive mechanical drawings of the works of Walker Turner drill presses like this one.
I just sold this machine to another OWWMer, David Sampar. Hopefully he won't tolerate the yellow paint as long as I did.
