A pair of Walker-Turner's smallest lathes in the late 30's. The L540 first appeared in the '36 catalog.
The fore lathe I purchased via eBay for about $170 shipped. It's in pretty good shape, the tail stock is tight and the action is smooth. The bearings in the headstock are shot, however. The tool rest has been broken and welded together. I believe it is missing a couple of pieces of the tail stock lock.
The aft lathe I purchased from fellow OWWMer and all-around good guy "nascarjeffd" after he let slip that he had a L540 for parts in my neck of the woods. I just couldn't let that slide. The tailstock on this one is missing the internal piece that extends/retracts and the wheel threads are stripped. The headstock bearings are in good shape though, and it includes an original face plate. I'm toying with using the bed of this one as an extension to the other.
In any case, these two put together should make for a pretty nice lathe.
