The history of this machine is under *Buffalo 15 Drill Press 15" Swing*.

It came out of GM Canada and contained all New Departure bearings, an old GM subsidiary. The depth stop is a retrofit having been machined by GM as a replacement decades ago. The depth stop nuts were made by me using nuts/washers and JB weld.

The motor is 1/2 HP, 6 amps and weighs 30 pounds. It is interesting as well. It was made by McKinnon an old automaker from St. Catharines, Ontario that became part of GM Canada in 1929. Everything in it is GM . . . the bearings are New Departure and even the wire is stamped GM, talk about vertical integration. I replaced the bearings and had it washed, serviced and painted by a shop run by "old boys", who wanted to know where I got it. The service tech said it was from the early 40s.

The drill press was stripped to bare metal and painted up from there. All bearings were replaced. The pipe was fun. First cleaned with gasoline, then naval jelly. Then run over with a 120grit 3M Roloc Bristle Disk attached to my angle grinder. Then a 2nd time with the angle grinder using 320 grit and finally hand rubbed with 400. Oh yes, then waxed.

Ready to go for another 60 years.

Comments: This came to me as a floor model, with a bench pipe. It's mounted as a bench until space permits me to return it to the floor.

Comments: The front quill stop had been replaced with a grease fitting. This was removed and replaced with a 7/16 bolt. I'll make a quill stop using this to match the original.
