I bought this machine from the Bergenfield High School in Bergenfield NJ. They weren't using it presumably because the tailstock was not working properly. The school purchased a new tailstock from Oliver at some point, as it is much newer than the rest of the machine. There were 2 problems keeping them from using it. The first required a new way spring from Eagle Machinery, that was a very easy fix. The way spring is a special piece of formed copper that takes up the slack between the narrow "key" on the underside of the tailstock and the front side of the gap in the bed. This is one of Oliver's cost cutting ideas I am sure, and proper machining of the key to match the width of the bed would eliminate the need for this copper way spring piece altogether. Earlier versions of the tailstock have a full width key to align the tailstock on the bed. Secondly, the tailstock quill wasn't traveling as it should because of a burr inside the cast iron tailstock. Once removed, I ran my 1-1/4" hand reamer through the tailstock, and cleaned up the quill, it works better than new now. I replaced the bearings in the motor (6203's) and the headstock (6206 and 6208, and B-88 needle bearing), along with a new belt. This thing just purrs now. Interstingly, the model number is 2159-MW, making me think it originally came with both metal spinning and woodworking tools, but I didnt call Eagle to verify. Included knockout bar, 2ea 12" tool rests, faceplate wrench, and banjo.
