I acquired this from a facility that had once been a millwork shop. This machine was left behind and the new tenants didn't want it. According to the F&E literature on this site, this is a Manual Training lathe. The '21, '24, and so on catalogs call lathes with this type of direct drive headstock a 400-D, but mine only says 400 on the casting. This is a Louis Allis 3 phase, 220 volt, 4 speed motor direct drive. The front handwheel is connected to a 4 position electrical drum switch through bevel gears. The speeds are 550, 1140, 1720, and 3400.
The only tooling I have are two tool rests, and a screw center that wants to, but won't quite, screw on. It has MT2 tapers in the spindle and tailstock.
This lathe is grubby but in original finish and has the original decal on the motor, which is still visible but faded. This machine has been well maintained.
