This machine was bought on e-bay from a used industrial equipment dealer.
After it was brought home, I discovered that the outer tab that bolts the fence assembly to the outfeed table was snapped off (but taped to the machine). I had the tab welded back on by an oldtimer who knew how to weld cast iron. I also replaced the bearings on the cutterhead. The next step was cosmetics.
The machine was disassembled, and the beds and fence were carefully sanded, compounded, waxed, and taped over. The cast items were then sandblasted. The stand was degreased and sanded with 220 to ready for paint. After taping and prepping small parts, painting was done with a gravity feed sprayer starting with clean metal primer and then finishing with two coats of oil based enamel that was color matched off a cleaned up portion of the access door. I don't think the color matches a fresh from the factory machine in '66, though.
After allowing cure time, tape was removed, wear surfaces were sanded to a fine grit, and the machine was re-assembled and lubed. I still have some setup to do, and a belt to replace, but it's almost done.
