Comments:
I acquired this bandsaw from a public auction in July, 2015, of assets from the Templeton Development Center in Templeton, Mass.
The Templeton Development Center is a facility for the care of adults with mental disabilities. It's been operating since 1899 --initially and mostly as a 'farm colony' associated with the Fernald School. I learned from one of the guys working there that it had been a self-sufficient working farm that supplied food to other Mass. institutions (not Dept. o' Corrections). I only mention this because the bandsaw, with serial number 17491 (1912-1920), saw a lot of history and I suspect was purchased new for the facility (though I have no way of proving it).
The facility or parts of it have been sold or leased to a private company that will still provide services, but many of the other operations are being shuttered -- including the maintenance department that has been using the saw. The buildings are being emptied and boarded until their final disposition is determined.
I haven't decided whether I will give this saw a fresh coat of paint or leave as-is.
