I bought this saw from a man in South Carolina who had restored it but was getting away from woodworking. He included the 5 HP 3ph motor, starter, and remote on-off switch, plus threw in a 10 HP 3ph motor to use in a rotary phase converter. Bearings were babbit, but the lower bearings have been converted to pillow blocks and the upper had slots for regular ball bearings machined into the babbit caps. Flat belt replaced with triple v-belt pulleys.
There is both red and green paint under the black. I haven't tried to determine the original color. This machine (except later modifications) is pretty much identical to the 1912 catalog picture. This one has the optional guards, and I suppose those became more common later, so it's likely that it dates toward the latter end of the possible range.
The table was broken, rewelded, and reground. The throat is made of a couple of blocks of wood. Carter guides have been added.
Plans: After getting the motor & switch set up, I'll improve the blade guards, especially on the up-side. Paint needs a little touch up. I will be painting the raised lettering. Maybe pinstripes to match my jointer.
