This is the first H.B. Smith Machine Co. bandsaw listed at this site. It was for sale at auction on Nov. 05, 2004 in Stokes County N.C. I did not stay around long enough to see what it sold for. Pictures show leather flat-belt drive. Owner had a 5HP single phase motor mounted on a shelf driving the main shaft. The shaft powered at least this BS and a small planer (about 15", I didn't measure). 36" wooden-rimmed wheels. Crude wooden upper wheel guards were hinged to the ceiling. Crude wooden bottom wheel guard was sitting on the floor (free-standing). A beautiful machine that appeared to be ready to run.

Comments: Close-up of flat belt drive and idler pulleys with leather belt. Notice the "belt-moving rod" shaped from heavy steel rod. Its handle is on other end of rod on operator side of BS.
