The ubiquitous Parks model 95 planer, sold under the Craftsman label.
>>HISTORY<<
In the late 1990s, a friend of mine worked part-time at a local auction house.
When the auction company unloads the contents of a house, the dealer gives him first shot at buying any tools, prior to auction.
My friend obtained this planer (along with a Boice-Crane 10" bench saw) from an old fellow's basement workshop.
The previous owner passed away and his estate was being liquidated.
Both the planer and saw were new and still in the original factory shipping crates.
The photo shows the first time the upper part of the crate was removed to inspect the planer (in my friend's barn).
It was shipped from Parks in Cincinnati Ohio to a Detroit Michigan Sears store (per the printing on the crate).
Note the block of wood and slip of paper on the bed.
The slip of paper explains that the enclosed block of wood was test planed as a final quality inspection.
The planer has a light amount of surface rust and is completely covered with dust.
My friend put it in his barn and it has been there for about 15 years.
UPDATE May 2013:
I purchased the planer from my friend, unused and still attached to the crate base.
Unfortunately, critters destroyed the original dirty paper, and the test block was lost.
Fortunately, the crate parts survived and I have those.
The planer also included a factory original cloth draw-string bag with two hex wrenches for machine adjustment.
UPDATE July 2022: Sold to a fellow OWWMer.
