Comments:
I purchased this machine in January of 2004, I started the restoration in May, and completed it in September. I still have to make two "bit adapter" collets for it, but the machine itself is up and running fine.

The machine's many features are detailed in the catalog listings found elsewhere on this site, so I won't go into them here.

It's the only one of these I've heard of which features a three-speed transmission in the power feed mechanism. Earlier ones had step pulleys, and later versions had a Reeves drive. I replaced the original, flat steel transmission shift lever with a Hurst shifter, and added a "barefoot" pedal pad to the foot-operated clutch pedal. I figured both minor modifications fit right in with the automotive racing products currently being manufactured by Oliver Racing Parts in their original factory on Clancy Street in Grand Rapids.

Due to the complexity of the machine's power feed, the restoration was not a simple one. Everything was completely disassembled, cleaned, and either painted or polished. I replaced all of the electrical controls, and set it up so that the feed motor and spindle motor could be operated independently.

Unlike foot or hand-operated mortisers, the operation of this one is effortless. With the spindle motor running, all that's required to operate the feed mechanism is light pressure on the clutch pedal. It can be locked in position if continuous operation is desired.

This is the 2000th entry in the owwm photo index. My big Oliver trimmer was the 1000th.
