Comments:
I received this shaper table from mike Floyd, who upgraded to a rare Stanley setup. This shaper table was originally manufactured by the Unit Electric Co., which was purchased by Porter cable in 1948. Unit Electrics' router designs ( the UB and UC routers, the shaper table, the stair jig and others) formed the backbone of Porter cables routers and accessories well into the 2000's, even thought the U series routers were out of production by 1951-52 ( their descendants, the 500 series routers, live on to the present day as the design platform for the 3hp routers ).
This shaper table is quite early, being badged with the Porter Cable/ Syracuse sanders "overstrike" logo on the stand and router base ( they are two different versions), but wearing the "Speedmatic" badge on the motor unit itself. The serial number cartouche is unmarked.
I replaced one of the aluminum trim pieces with a recast part, discretely mounted a motor junction box big enough to house a power outlet, and incorporated a foot switch. I plan on fabricating reproduction table inserts in the future, and making a guard ring and arm to fit the slot milled in the table behind the fence.
