This Rockwell saw was found from a classified ad in April of 2004. The seller had it in his barn in Maine and was asking $150 but dropped the price to an even $100 when the motor wouldn't start. From a call I made to Delta with the serial number, it was determined to be a model 34-450 built in 1956.

The saw has been fitted with a new Baldor 2hp motor. New arbor bearings were pressed in at a local machine shop. The nice bracket for the starter switch was picked up on Ebay for a few dollars. The zero clearance throat plate was fashioned out of a scrap piece of white Corian counter top material. The hefty, round motor cover can be removed in less than a minute. The cover, which reduces noise substantially, is made from the top of an old water pressure tank welded to a steel base. Welding for the motor cover was done at a local metal shop in exchange for a large box of Dunkin Donuts pastries. Painted parts were hand sanded, sprayed with primer, and top coated with Rustoleum Smoke Gray enamel. Bare iron was sanded and then polished with steel wool and Butcher's wax. The mobile base is home made. So far an additional $560 has been spent on this saw with a couple of small parts still needed for the original rip fence.
