No real history known. Acquired from a fellow OWWM'r in SW Michigan. He received it in a multi machine deal.
This motor is a Repulsion Induction Motor and is very large and heavy.
-Motor tag info-
5HP
Cat # 5642 60 cycle
Volts-110/220 Ph 1
RPM 1750 Amps 52/26
Serial# 824745 74
The tag and case style match the examples in the 1936/37 Craftsman Power Tool Catalogs along with some of the other stated info.
342 lbs.
1 1/4 keyed shaft
Bolt spacing for feet = 12 7/8 x 11
Also noted that there is a cast in # on one of the feet = R36 1. Did not find a reference to this #.
On very odd thing about this motor, all the 5642 catalog #'s are for sleeve bearing motors. This motor is ball bearing.
I was hoping that the grill design on the brush end of the motor would give me a clue as to the true manufacturer of the motor. I compared many makes and did not come up with even a similar design.
