I found this lathe several years ago at HGR in Euclid with an enormous set of drawers swallowing the cast iron legs. I purchased it over the phone for what I felt was a reasonable price, and my boss , having also bought some things, picked it up for me; I never saw it in person until it arrived at the shop. My boss grinned and told me to look in the drawers. Imagine my surprise when the drawers I assumed were empty proved to be crammed with Delta accessories. There was everything from shaper cutters (twenty or so) to planer knife gauges, toolrests, faceplates, chucks... How it didn't all walk away or get sold separately is a mystery. The lathe also had an extra banjo, nice enough until you realize that the 1948 1460 had bronze banjo handles, and so does the extra. It must have been ordered with the machine, or very shortly after.
The lathe itself was in apple pie order, so it got new bearings, belt, cord and paint. The original wooden boards were shot, so I made modified copies in cherry. They incorporate a sliding toolrack , a storage case made from a Sears metal kitchen cabinet and a motor mount that raises and lowers to facilitate speed changes.
I've had a lot of enjoyable evenings in front of this lathe, and I hope to
have many,many more.
