Comments:
I originally acquired this band saw from HGR in Euclid ( where it had languished for the better part off a year)with the intention of stripping it for parts ( which, if you know me, tells volumes about the condition); the saw had been modified by welding in a spacer to extend the cutting capacity and then cutting the base in half, hammering the legs out and rewelding it together about 8" shorter. They also broke or lost nearly every die cast part on the machine.
I brought it home, stripped what parts were left, and drug the main castings to the curb for the scrap guys. I turned, walked a few paces, and then turned right around and brought them back in the shop, where I pieced the band saw ( now christened "lucky") back together in the following months. I welded in new leg sections, found the missing pieces and repaired the welding damage to the main castings. I came up with a hot rod paint scheme, a work light and a larger cap start Delta motor.
I originally gave the saw to my neighbor, but he decided to part with it as it wasn't being used. It now lives at my work, where I am the maintenance department and the band saw is in no danger of any more hackery. But just in case, Lucky has herself a rabbit's foot on the switchrod and a steel penny spot welded to the upper guard to see her through.
What can I say? I'm a soft touch.
