This is Delta's model 700 24" scroll saw. It was purchased from a second hand tool store in Concord, CA. It came with the original Delta welded open stand with pre-date the bolted stands. According to the 1936 Delta catalog sheet this is "the first really practical scroll saw ever made." The saw was dated with the help of OldWWMachines members based on catalogs and knowledge of "Delta Specialty Company" logo decals on the machine and on the stand. This was a relative fast and easy restoration. The tubes, which were completely covered with a coating of rust, were brought back to their original shine by sanding and polishing them on a woodworking lathe with the aid of wooden end plugs - see the second photograph. The same plugs were used to help press out and then press the tubes back in to the cast iron frame. By the way, this saw cost $19.95 in 1936 without motor and stand. Subsequent to re-building this machine it was sold in order to make space for the next generation all cast iron Delta scroll saw.
