Comments:
This sad dog was sitting by the side of the road with a $25 sign on it. I snapped it up and took it home. As far as I can tell, all of the original parts have survived.

It isn't quite the same as the J776 listed in the '36 and previous catalog, but it is identical to the pencil sketch used in the '38 W-T shaper book.

The rust isn't nearly as bad as it looks in these pictures, I think it'll clean up pretty well. Now I just need a motor.

Update:
Yeah, right, just a motor. Well, I stripped it down to bare metal (mostly) and found that is was actually a Craftsman badged W-T. It was CMan blue underneath the nasty grey brush-n-run job. I managed to salvage the SKF bearings decal, but the Craftsman decal didn't survive. I repainted it with Rust-Oleum American Accents Midnight Blue (yeah, I know that sounds like something out of Trading Spaces, but it looks pretty close to original).

Unfortunately, one rather important piece was missing: the nut for the 1/2" spindle. No big deal? *You* try finding a 1/2-24 nut. Thankfully, Jeff at Walker Turner Serviced Machinery was able to dig one up for me. The keyed washer was also missing, but that's still a standard Delta replacement part: 904-05-010-1646.

Looks like its catalog number was 99PM2313 which you can find in the CMan 1937 catalog: http://www.owwm.com/pubs/detail.asp?id=1423 . By '38 Craftsman had switched to a different model.

I added the newish 3/4 hp motor, which spins the small cutters typical of this size shaper pretty well.

I now have a bunch of before, in progress, and after photos at http://www.joewells.org/owwm
