While attending an auction, I mentioned to one of the other regulars that I am looking for a 12" short bed jointer. He said he had a 16" Sidney that he wanted to sell. It is a direct drive and the motor is missing but could be converted to belt drive. I took the 20 min. drive to inspect it and found it to be in excellent condition, just a bit of surface rust on the cutter head. He even offered a 5hp motor with the deal.

The jointer was completly sandblasted, primed and painted. The cutterhead and un-painted surfaces ( not the table or fence ) were coated with Tool Black, a type of black oxide coating, to prevent rust. Installed new bearings. I fabricated the mobile base with motor mount from 1"x3" tube and 1/4" plate. The 4 1/2"dia, 3 knife cutterhead rotates at 4542 rpm. It runs vibration free.
