Sears/Dunlap Post Drill. Manufacture date approximately 1942. Three speed hand crank or motor pulley drive. Missing the Cam on the rear spindle that drives the front spindle elevation hand wheel by a ratchet pawl. Also missing the cam follower disengagement lever. Internal drive and shifting gears are of a multiple thin steel plates that are combined (5 sheet) to form one stack laminated gear.
History: Cl ad from Toledo, Ohio. PO stated he bought the drill press and a pneumatic planishing hammer as a package. He flipped the pneumatic hammer for a tidy sum and sort of regarded the post drill as not worthy of *bay, and posted it locally. The post drill came out of a vintage auto body shop in Toledo, Ohio and was covered in several decades of bodywork paint, grime, and dust.
There are no listings of Blacksmith/Post Drill Press in the Sears/Craftsman/Dunlap catalogs of the era. Probably due to WWII manufacturing demand the drill was quickly discontinued.
