Comments:
Short lived and early Barnes amateur scroll saw made from about 1877 to 1879. The design with the two metal arms connecting to the vertical blade holders sliding in metal guides did not work well because of the arching movement of the arms. Restored to what is felt to be the original colors based on others known to exist, some limited pin striping still visible and paint colors of similar Barnes machines of that vintage. This machine was designed to be operated by somebody sitting on a stool. Original price with drill attachment was $15. When found, almost none of the original finish was there as can be seen in the last photo and the wood table was a replacement in very bad condition. Round belt will be added later to complete the restore. For additional information on this and other foot powered machines, please visit www.footpoweredmachinery.com
