Comments:
Got this machine off of CL from a retired gentleman. He said it was passed down to him some 40 years ago. He had not used it in quite some time and it was pretty rusted up and the tilt and blade elevation did not work. Bought it as is for $70 bucks - I know it was too much but I don't like to haggle. This machine I feel is the best Home machine for the period. It wasn't cheap for the time but it was affordable by most blue collar workers. I still remember when my Mom saved and got one for my Dad for Christmas back in the early 50's. He really thought he had a great saw and showed it off to everybody. I still have that saw and it will be passed down also. The 22160 had some faults but it was a pretty good machine for the time and Sears must have sold hundreds of thousands of them.

Comments: One of the faults of this saw was the base. The cross rails were pretty flimsy and they were like little razors.

Comments: The other fault on this machine was the tilt gear. I have only run accross one saw that didn't have this gear stripped out. It was the weak point of the saw and usually was the first thing to go out.

Comments: My fix to the stripped gear problem. Simple acme threaded rod and fabricated brackets.

Comments: My fix for the razor blade cross members is to replace with a wood. May not have the longevity that metal has but it really saves on bandades.

Comments: My humble opinion - this is a great little saw for the time period and I just love restoring them and giving them to relatives and friends.
