Found this machine in classified ads in local paper (Amarillo, TX). Had come out of a professional woodworking shop over 20 years previous to my purchase and had sat in pieces in the PO's shop ever since. It was going to the scrapper if not bought. PO turned out to be a dentist I has used previous to my insurance changing. Machine was incredibly complete with original GE 2 hp 3 phase motor. The only broken piece was the front clamp which was easy to correct. The babbitt bearings had been re-poured prior to my purchase and still have about 0.150" shims. I took it down to every nut, bolt, and screw (including the motor). I added a mobile base. After a lengthy restoration and lots of tweaking to the bearing shims, it runs beautifully. I hope it will serve me and the next owner(s) for another 100 years.

I fitted the fence and clamp with pieces of East Indian Rosewood I have had for almost 40 years. I equipped it with modern electricals including a magnetic starter and a momentary switch set (which was also restored). The switch plate was my addition utilizing existing gib tightening bolts for mounting. The badge is a water-slide decal on painted 1/8" aluminum stock. The original badge had no discernible artwork left.

The back fence has a machined overhang (approx. 3/16") which overhangs the stock and holds the work down. This machine has a unique fence unlike any noted on other No. 147 machines. Thanks to Len Balege for a making a chisel bushing.
