In February of 2014, I answered a classified ad for woodworking shop liquidation and was told about the mortiser. Upon arrival at the shop, I was informed the seller’s father purchased the machine used in the 1960’s from the Edward B. Mueller Company in Cincinnati. The mortiser was used for decades building custom cabinetry and furniture. After the seller’s father passed, the machine and shop sat untouched for the better part of 20 years.

The machine was in rough shape when I brought it home, but I am very glad that I took on the project. The previous owner was elated to hear that the machine would be reconditioned and again see use.

The mortiser is decently stout, and is a real pleasure to use.
