Comments:
This drill press was bought from Simon Baccus of Ladysmith kwaZulu-Natal. Purchasing it meant a 300 mile round trip to collect and bring home. The drill press was not in the best condition and was well used. However the price was relatively cheap as it came with a working motor. The 4 sheave motor pulley had been damaged, the index pointer missing and all the bearings needed replacement. The 88106 pulley bearing was unavailable obsolete so a replacemnt had to be made using a 6205 bearing as replacement. A special insert had to be machined. The original spindle bearings were also replaced but with normal bearings which deviated from what the originals were like. The whole drill press was stripped to bare metal and then repainted Duram NS4 undercoat, 2 coats gloss paint. A pointer was home made to fit and the pointer holder modified to retain the inner spring within it. The end result shows the DP restored. A replica light was attached and a clamp made from an aluminium gutter bracket fitted to prevent the table falling. In painting raised edges were painted a darker grey for effect.
