Acquired a few years ago, after being after it for a couple of decades. Acquired from original owner's son. Original owner was a machinist, living in the San Francisco Bay area, who did a lot of contract work for the U.S. Navy. The lathe came to me with a LOT of tooling, including multiple sizes and types of chucks (all by Cushman), faceplates, tool-rests, over 90 pounds of cutting tools of all sorts, a tool post grinder, taper attachment, large set of taper-shank drills.....and a whole lot more. The ways, gears, bearings, etc., were in very nice condition. I had a lot of trouble getting the 3 jaw chuck off the spindle threads, and finally machined it off and made a new threaded backing plate. I managed to obtain a runout of UNDER 0.001" on that work (specifications from R.K.LeBlond were 0.004" max). This particular lathe was 'born' the same year I was, 1937, and was the exact model of lathe I learned on, when in Jr. High School, long long ago.....probably one of the main reasons I was after it. I have had to do only a quite modest amount of cleaning and restoration to it. While I use the lathe regularly, one thing left to do is to replace the Acme reverse threaded rod for the carriage cross piece. Missing from the lathe is the original famous LeBlond hand wheel on the left side, for which, see photo, I am using a modified pulley. Included with the lathe purchase were numerous other antique machinery items, which I will post on this site, including a Miller-Knuth power hacksaw.
