Very interesting machine offered on ebay with an auction end date of 9/7/04. Seller added the following information:
This vintage machine has been in constant use at the G&H Woodworking Shop in Worcester Massachusetts until the owner's retirement in 2004. It includes several cutting heads and is capable of producing rails and styles, cuts moulding profiles, rabbits and mating rails. It also cuts the groves and drills the holes for sash cords. This machine is a must for any restoration shop. This machine is belt driven and includes a 550 volt, 3HP General Electric motor.
The machine was produced by the American Woodworking Machinery Company at Plant 9 in Williamsport, PA. This company was formed in 1897 and incorporated in 1898 as a result of the merger of eleven companies. They merged with P.B. Yates in 1925 and became known as the Yates-American Company. Therefore we know that the machine was built sometime between 1897 and 1925. It does have a brass plate that says "Shop # 910428" that may be either a serial number or an inventory tag from a prior owner, we just are not certain of this.
We know that there were two companies from Williamsport PA involved in this merger, The Williamsport Machine Company and the Rowley & Hermance Company. We can guess that this machine was produced prior to the merger by one of these companies, but we are unable to find that information at this time.
The yellow plywood guards were added to satisfy OSHA requirements.
