Got this machine from a fellow OWWM forum member who had saved it from the scrappers. I think he had had vague plans to restore it, but had found another, more modern, less "Babbitt-y" saw instead. The price was okay, and the location was close, so I bit. It was kind of like buying sight-unseen, since neither him nor I had been "under the hood". I knew up front that the wooden rims were shot. There was a lot of rust... Everywhere... And the bearing housings were packed with grease cloth and old grease, which told me that a re-pour would most likely be in order. What I didn't see was a shaft nearly destroyed from scoring, a cracked trunnion, a broken plate that connects rim to spoke, and something wonky with the tension. But, she's mine now, and I love her in spite of all her flaws. I'm slowly slogging through the restoration, with my shoe-string budget rapidly flying out the window... However, it is my distinct pleasure to save this machine from certain smelting.
