This machine previously belonged to my father, who was a Tool and Die Maker by trade and purchased it after he retired about twenty years ago for use in his garage machine shop where he pursued his hobby of auto restoration. Prior to that, I was told they belonged to a gunsmith. The mill is a fully functional Child’s & Co. 0000 Vertical Milling Machine, but it was built with 1” of extra travel on each axis, making it similar to the larger 000 model in capability. According to the 1971 price list, the cost of extra travel per inch was $15 for longitudinal or vertical, and $25 for transverse. My father also made two modifications to the machine, a ratcheting quill lever and spring assisted vertical feed.
