I really like these stout little shapers which have a beefy solid spindle and a compact footprint. This machine was set-up (very nicely) to cut box joints. The sled and custom stacked cutter set are easily worth more than the shaper (nice bonus!). I think I've gotten down to the original paint job after a roll of paper towels and a quart of lacquer thinner. I had to replace the bearings which were toast but the quill is easy to remove and work on. Fortunately for me Dan at Davis and Wells still has some parts for these machines and I was able to get a replacement top bearing cap for the quill since the original was cracked. Looking forward to having an extra shaper in the shop. Even after lots of use there is less than 1/1000 run out in the spindle.
