The Silver Mfg Co. – No.22 Post Drill
Appears complete, except for wooden feed-wheel handle.
I bought this post drill last month (June 2014). I've always wanted a No.22 (not sure why). Like my No.14, this was located some 425 miles from home. My sister picked it up for me (so now it's 450 miles away) but I won’t see it until the end of January 2015. More photos and details in February.
Drills to the centre of a 15” circle. 2-speeds. Run of feed = 3¾"; dia. of spindle = 1"; feedwheel is 6" dia. and has 67 notches; dia. of flywheel = 14"; flywheel shaft gear has 22 teeth: idler gear has 22 teeth; main crank gear has 46 teeth; spindle gear has 30 teeth. Dia. of pillar = 1 9/16".
I wonder why every single Silver post drill No.14 and above, listed on this site (1 x No.14; 2 x No.21; 4 x No.22, 2 No.23), are all located in Australia or New Zealand? Didn't they sell any in the States? LOL.
Update. May 2015: During March 2015 I made up a post and mounted the drill. It would be complete and working, but I misplaced the auto-feed return spring and the stub axle for the crank gear wheel. Hopefully these will show up soon, so I can finish the job.
