This machine was purchased many years ago at an auction of a filling station in North Reading, MA. Attendees of the auction suggested that the old woodworking machines came from a carriage making company. The machine is equipped with 4 different cutters that can produce roundovers and chamfers. The front of the machine shows C F PETTINGELL MAKER AMESBURY MASS handpainted in red over blue green. The opposite side has PATENTED. I belted it up and it produced surprisingly well machined edges on 4x4" cedar stock. Pettingell made many woodworking machines for the carriage business so this machine may have been used to finish parts of carriages or other utility vehicles.
