This motor came with a Craftsman 103.0213 tilt table bench saw (ca. 1945-1949; http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=17181). I suspect they were purchased together, as the motor has "B2 48" stamped at the bottom of the plate, suggesting manufacture in 1948. The motor was mounted on rails at the rear of a home-made saw stand. It was apparently bolted too tightly to the rail, breaking out a section of the sidewall of the cast iron base. The toggle switch in the base was also missing; it had been replaced with a 1920s(?) light switch, wired with lamp cord and mounted on the saw stand.
This motor has a flat 200-300 MFD Aerovox capacitor in a tinned canister in the base, inside a cardboard box. See photo below of the label on the box. The original bearings were: ND (New Departure) 8503(extended race 1 side, open face one side). The Accurate Bearing replacements are: 87503.
I disassembled and cleaned the motor, installed new bearings and repaired the base with a steel bracket and machine screws into tapped holes in the cast iron. It was repainted with Valspar Gloss Cobalt Cannon, 85041. I did not replace the toggle switch - because of the capacitor, there's little room in the base for a modern toggle switch.
The motor runs great, will be probably be used on the same saw.
