This Craftsman/King-Seeley Model 80 bench drill press came to me from a repeat customer for a complete restoration. He found it in the San Antonio Craigslist. It has the original 1/2-HP Craftsman/Packard Electric 1750-rpm motor also. The previous owner had converted it to a floor model with a piece of oil field drill pipe as the new column. I converted it back to a proper bench model using the bench model base as it was originally set up as and did a complete tear down/clean up restoration. The original motor was in place with the 4-step cone pulley installed on the motor shaft upside down being used this way...LOL
The original bearings in the quill shaft (had no measurable run-out) and step pulley bearings were both fine just needing soaking in new lubrication. I had to cut down the long replacement column since the original one was long gone and grind/polish out all the casting imperfections common to high strength drill pipe. Added a new proper metal switch box mounted of the left side motor mount and all new electrical cords and a USA made Gates A-type V-belt also. This is a nice size bench model drill press then runs very quite and makes very accurate holes in wood or metals.
