I had spotted it in some pictures from an upcoming auction which took place an hour and a half away. However, I just couldn't make it and figured I'd have to keep looking. A few days later, the same grinder showed up on Cr*igslist and I contacted the seller. We agreed on a bottom dollar price which was 40% lower than advertised, but about double what I would have *liked* to pay. But the vintage name plate was really calling to me as were the intact shields. I asked the seller if the shields had broken or cracked glass. He said, "no", yet I discovered immediately upon my arrival for pickup the next day (driving a half hour from work at lunch to do so) that one of them *was*, in fact, cracked significantly. I was a bit annoyed since I had asked the seller explicitly about this before making the trip, but when I noticed the toggle switch was present and working (a feature I had thought was missing entirely based on the poor pictures), I decided that was an ok trade-off.
Other good news:
-- She spins up and runs beautifully and respectably quiet.
-- the wheel shrouds are intact and complete, including the outside covers which I find are often missing from vintage grinders of any quality.
I'll rewire it, clean and repaint. I'll also need a line on replacement tool rests and one shield glass.
