I recently drove a few hours for this sensitive drill press. It looks to be from a period in which drill press makers were transitioning from line-shaft to dedicated motors. The variable speed mechanism is interesting. I have a James Clark Drill Press which also has a dual disk drive, but the Hisey-Wolf appears to be adjustable while the machine is operating. It also allows for reversing. I particularly like the two adjustable rollers which support the back of the drive disk. These appear to provide bearing for both thrust and radial forces.
Sadly the original motor - probably a Hisey-Wolf product is long gone. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with additional information about this machine - or, of course, anyone with lead on an original motor.
This particular example has a bad break in the main casting where the quill passes through. It will be a challenge to repair, but I'm going to try.
